My mother died through the MAID program in December 2020 after several years of serious health issues and difficult personal circumstances that deeply affected the quality of her life. Mom actually went through the MAID approval process twice, for different reasons, which was excruciating for our family. When she ultimately made her choice, it was terribly sad but I respected her decision and supported her through to the end.

It was a difficult time, and although I was very well supported it would have been so helpful to talk to people who understood firsthand what the experience was like. In volunteering with the MAID Family Support Society, I hope to take what I have learned through my personal experience and help others as they navigate this challenging and painful journey.
